Lauren Hale Biniaris is the founder and Artistic
Director of modern dance company Lauren
Hale Dance. The company was formed
in 2004 after Lauren graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance from
NYU’s
Since 2004, Lauren has acted as Guest Teaching Artist
and Choreographer in Residence for the Chattanooga Ballet, Brown University’s
Dance Extension, and the Mercersburg Academy. In New York City, Lauren has
presented choreography at Dixon Place, The Museum of Biblical Art, the Flea
Theater, The Solar 1 Arts Festival, The Cunningham Studio, Triskelion Arts, and
the Cool New York Dance Festival to name a few.
She has co-produced two evening length concerts with ThisThat Dance Collective, and in April
of 2009, she self-produced an evening of dance with her company at the
Philipstown Depot Theatre in Garrison, New York. Most recently, she is
engaged in producing an ongoing dance series at the Philipstown Depot Theatre
called Depot Dances, whose mission is
to bring high quality dance made by emerging and established choreographers to
the Hudson Valley area. Lauren has been
the recipient of DanceNow’s Silo Project residency as well as The Field’s
Emerging Artist Residency, and she has been a Sponsored Artist both through The
Field and through Dance Theater Workshop.
Lauren has participated numerous times in the Bessie Choreography
Workshop for NYU graduates under the tutelage of Don Redlick, and she has also
studied pedagogy and improvisation with Pilobolus founder, Jonathan
Wolken. As a performer, Lauren has
danced with the Aimee Rials Dance Project, Noel MacDuffie Performance, The
Second Avenue Dance Company, Brown University’s Dance Extension, and New
Works/World Traditions.
